Out of my comfort zone!
This summer I will turn 45 years old - but unfortunately not everybody gets that privilege.
What better way to celebrate by pushing my body wayyyyy outside my comfort zone and swimming across the Northumberland Straight, which separates Prince Edward Island from mainland Canada?!?! I tell people about this endeavour and usually (probably because I can swim but I'm not "a swimmer", the reaction I get is "you're crazy!!". Maybe ... but I'm not only doing it to challenge myself physically, I'm doing it for one of the best causes there is ... TO HELP CHILDREN !
Brigadoon Village is a summer camp in my home province of Nova Scotia that provides fun times, wonderful experiences, and a chance for children and youth living with chronic illness to THRIVE among others in similar circumstances. The camp's vision statement pretty much says it all "Giving extraordinary kids the chance to be ordinary".
Last year, two of my dear childhood friends did this same undertaking and they were both absolute superstars. I spent that day watching their trackers online as the current pushed all the swimmers way "off course" before they course turn back towards the final arrival point in PEI. It was amazing to see and frankly, they both said it was amazing to experience. So this year, it's my turn.
I might still be nursing an injury while I set up this fundraising page but I've been following the training schedule and have received the go ahead from my doctor so I am now officially starting my fundraising pleas. Please help me in my effort to swim these eight hours and make it all worth it when I can put my feet down on PEI sand on August 18th.
